FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions - VDOCS Photo Scanning

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

General Services

What makes VDOCS different from other photo scanning services?
VDOCS offers industry-leading 1,200 DPI scanning (4–16× sharper than standard), flatbed scanning (never through rollers), professional dust removal, color correction, and correct image orientation. All photos are handled by skilled personnel in the USA with transparent pricing and no hidden fees.
What types of materials can you scan?
We scan a wide variety of materials, including:
  • Loose photos (up to 6" × 9")
  • Photos in album sleeves
  • Photo albums and scrapbooks (up to 11.6" × 17")
  • 35mm slides and negatives (126, 127, 110 formats)
  • Documents and drawings
  • Historical materials (we’ve scanned albums dating back to 1895)
Can I try your service before committing to a large order?
Yes! Send 20–30 of your favorite 4×6 or 5×7 photos for a free trial. We’ll scan, restore, and return them at no charge—just include a pre-paid return envelope or label. Enhanced images are delivered via Dropbox or Google Drive.

Scanning Quality & Process

What resolution do you use for scanning?
  • Photos: 1,200 DPI standard (up to 6,400 DPI available)
  • Large format (up to 11.6" × 17"): 600 DPI
  • Slides & negatives: 6,400 DPI
What is included in your Ultra Clarity HD scanning process?
Every scan includes:
  • High-resolution scanning at 1,200+ DPI
  • Professional photo restoration
  • Color correction
  • Dust removal
  • Correct image orientation
  • Custom indexing and file naming
  • Web delivery via cloud platforms
Why is higher DPI important?
At 1,200 DPI, photos can be enlarged up to 16× without losing clarity—ideal for slideshows, big-screen TVs, large prints, and future high-definition displays. This is archival quality designed to look great for decades.
Do you use flatbed or feed-through scanners?
We exclusively use flatbed scanners for photos. They provide superior quality and avoid the risk of roller-feed damage.

How much does photo scanning cost?

No. We scan in your chosen order regardless of size.

Getting Started & Order

How should I prepare my photos for scanning?
